News!

By the way.....tomorrow I will have been married for THREE WEEKS!!!! I know it is only the beginning, but it is still worth celebrating! ;-)

Catch-Up

Wow, I do not even know where I should begin. I have had a good excuse to not write, but now as I sit down I struggle with the overwhelming task of catching up on the last few weeks' events. I have been feverishly trying to post pictures to the internet in a photo album, but I am having to compress all of them and then load them up one at a time. It is proving to take a great deal of time. When I complete I will try to then post some here or post a link to the photos.

At this point, all I can really say is that God has been faithful and good. Now I will try to summarize the main events of this exciting season in my lifelong journey of faith!

After the introduction in the church, Eddie and I traveled to Kampala to do some bit of last minute shopping and then to pick up our family. My parents and my sister arrived safely in Uganda. While they were here I think they had quite an adventure, but that is their story to tell. I have a different tale to tell here. The week before the wedding was chaotic, though I think much more relaxed than an American wedding. Most of our time was pent with Pastors for pre-marital counseling. It was so encouraging for both Eddie and I to listen to these words of wisdom about marriage come from people who have been married for years. Besides this we tried to spend as much time as possible with my family. It was such a blessing to have them here; and it was for more than just the cheese they carried with them. Even after they left, I still have a piece of them and all my friends back home. My mom compiled quilt squares and made a beautiful quilt that I can look at whenever I want to remember those I have left behind.

Next was the wedding. Eddie and I tried to make it as much an African-American wedding as we could. Though it started on African time - 2 hours late! In the end it was really fun and unique. It was a whole day affair with the reception and the dinner party after. In all I think there were a lot of people who enjoyed the day, ( I heard everything from 1000-3000 people there). It truly is an experience that is best described with pictures and video. I do not think I could do it justice here.

After the wedding came the family safari. I have to admit that this was an incredibly fun experience. We saw a lot of animals, but more importantly we spent a lot of time together. We were able to finally relax and have fun. Unfortunately after this was the sad parting at the airport. I think the only thing that helped me and Eddie with this was the idea and knowledge that we will see our family again soon. As we know God will provide a way to travel there soon.

Then the honeymoon began. So, after a while we arrived back in Lira. :-) Since then my time has been dominated with organizing the house to accommodate two people and their things. Besides these busy house things, there has been the wedding photos to organize, etc. All in all, it has kept me very busy as Eddie works, and I have found little time to spend on the internet.

Now, I think my biggest complaint is that my computer still is exceptionally slow and irritating. You would think that I would have gotten used to it by now, but nope! Years in college with this computer still has not conditioned me to it. It is slow for Africa if that tells you anything! :-)

The Introduction

Well, I am in great need of updating this blog. I only hope I have time to do it justice this afternoon. Today, was a big day. It was Edward and my introduction to the church for the wedding this coming Saturday. His sisters Joan and Margaret were very kind yesterday. They surprised me with a dress that had been made for me specifically for this introduction occasion. It is an absolutely beautiful dress of dark blue with white and blue embroidery. It is really quite hard to describe anyway, so I will try to post a few pictures later of the introduction. So, in this new dress and Edward in a suit jacket we were both looking very smart! There is a time in the service where new people ocassionally greet the congregation. It came to that time during the church service and the pastor said that some men needed to find Edward. Thus began the introduction. They surrounded him and carried him onto the stage. Of course, after this was my turn to be carried to the stage. I may not be describing it with justice, but it was quite the joyful event. We both greeted the church as we were raised up and invited everyone to come to the wedding. I think, oddly enough it was this event that I needed to finally cement in my mind that I am getting married on Saturday!!! I AM GETTING MARRIED ON SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!

Previous to this event Edward and I have been busy meeting with premarital counseling sessions. These have been powerful, as we hear from elder married people in the community, advising us and teaching us. It is humbling to hear all of the great things they have to say. I look forward to the day long away in the future when we will also be there at the place of wisdom about marriage. It will be glorious and will be by God's grace that we reached there.

Other than these wedding preparations, I have been relaxing with a great group of Americans. They have, of course, become my fast friends and I am looking forward to giving them roles in my upcoming wedding. It is so fun to interact with them and watch them on their own journeys in this country. They will never be the same for their trip here.

Well, I must be closing this post now. It is time to go visit mzee in the village.

God bless.
